Eva's New Site

I moved Eva's site (http://www.evajoy.net) to a new location yesterday. Basically it's just a blog hosted at blogger.com. The old site wrapped the RSS feed in a new design. Basically I had everything enclosed in a custom look and feel. The down side is that features like an archive or comments weren't available through the custom design. Plus there was a bunch of static content on the custom site that was becoming a pain to update. So I decided to just move the entire domain over to blogger and use their design. It'll make things easier.

I highly doubt any of you out there subscribe to her feed, but in case you do, you may want to update your subscription Url because it changed (and so did all the permalinks, for that matter). Point your aggregator at www.evajoy.net and your app should be able to auto-discover the new feed.

Woohoo happy birthday Eva! On Saturday we had a party for her in our backyard and it was pretty fun. We took about 160 pictures, but unfortunately they're all on our home computer which I rarely use these days. I'll have to make some time for getting the good ones up on Flickr.

Eva also had her 12-month checkup today and got four different vaccinations. She also had her finger poked for a hemoglobin test. She was actually pretty curious about getting her finger poked - she just watched the technician and her finger and smiled the whole time. I was expecting screams and tears but instead she actually enjoyed it. Weird kid :)

Eva Walks

Eva has been taking little steps every now and then for a while, but yesterday she really started walking more on her own. She doesn't really get up on her own and start walking, but she'll do it with a little bit of encouragement and if she's already standing up.

So here's are a couple of videos of her walking:

Eva Walks (5MB)

Eva Walks (with Fantomas accompaniment) (5MB)

So, what exactly is the reason for the Fantomas accompaniment? I have no idea. I have to keep things interesting and keep you readers on your toes.

Oh, by the way, I don't use YouTube.com for my videos because as far as I can tell they don't support the 16:9 ratio. I film in nothing but widescreen baby!

Eva crawled for the first time today. Head over to EvaJoy.net to view the video footage. Luckily a video camera wasn't too far away and Nikki was there to catch it. I think there's a strong chance Eva is going to be a gamer... in the video you can see that she's going for the XBox wireless controller base :)

We're pretty excited about this. She always gets pretty frustrated because she can't move around and get to where she wants to go. Now that'll start to change, and I'm excited for her.

On the evajoy.net note, I realized I need to get permalinks working on her site. Right now it's just a news feed that just rolls out content. I'll have to work on that sometime...

The Ikea Pentapus

What's up with this? We bought what is supposed to be an octopus toy from Ikea for Eva, but it only has five legs:

What's Ikea trying to do? Brainwash kids into some lame new math? Whatever. Someday she'll appreciate that we noticed this. Had we not noticed, she might have ended up learning something weird like starting counting from zero instead of one.

...they give you your own website at the age of eight months. That's right.... EvaJoy.net has launched. We thought it'd be really cool to get a domain name for Eva and let her take charge of it when she gets old enough. Who knows, maybe she will hate computers and technology when she grows up, but until then she'll have her own site maintained by mom and dad.

I couldn't just create a static site... I had to do something a little cool by having the site pull content from an Atom feed generated from Blogspot so that content can be syndicated. Ok, so none of our relatives even have a clue what Atom, RSS, blogs, or syndication is. But like I said, I couldn't just create a static site. Where would the fun be in that?
